2019 opening hours
Bidston Lighthouse will open to the public on:
- the first Saturday of each month from April to September, and
- every Sunday from 7th April until Sunday 8th September (except Sunday 5th May).
Guided tours start on the hour (at 12 noon, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm) each day. Doors open at 11:45am. First come, first served. Second hand books, souvenirs and light refreshments are available.
Different arrangements will apply during the Heritage Open Days in September.
End of season openings. Following the Heritage Open Days, there will be three more Lighthouse open days on Saturday 5th, Sunday 6th and Sunday 13th October at the later time of 12:45 pm (guided tours at 1pm, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm).
Admission Charges. Free admission to the ground floor (reception) and oil room (bookshop). Guided tours of the signals and lamp rooms cost £2.50 (adult) or £1 (child).
Restrictions. Children must be 1.06 metres (42 inches) or taller to go up to the lamp room, and must be accompanied by an adult at all times. All visitors to the signals and lamp rooms must be accompanied by a guide. There is no access to the lamp room balcony on open days, for health and safety reasons.
Private guided tours of Bidston Lighthouse can be arranged all year round (but we advise against coming in winter, as the lighthouse is not heated). Guided tours are charged at £2.50 per person, and we can offer coffee or tea and cake at an additional £2.50 per person. A minimum charge of £25 applies. Prices may rise in 2020. Contact us to book.
Nearby Bidston Windmill opens from 10:00 am until 12 noon on the first Saturday of each month from April to September. It is closed during the colder months when hibernating bats resume their winter residence. The last Windmill opening of the season will be on Saturday 14th September, from 10am until 12 noon, during the Heritage Open Days.
Stop press: the Windmill open day scheduled for Saturday 7th September has been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances combined with a shortage of volunteers.
