Our last open day this season will be on Sunday 3rd September. We expect to offer guided tours at 1pm, 2pm, and 3pm, but this could vary according to demand.
Different arrangements apply during the Heritage Open Days later in September, which must be pre-booked.
Admission Charges. Free admission to the ground floor (reception) and oil room (second-hand bookshop). Guided tours of the signals and lamp rooms cost £4 (adult) or £2 (child).
Restrictions. Children must be 1.06 metres (42 inches) or taller to go up to the lamp room, and must be accompanied by an adult at all times. All visitors to the signals and lamp rooms must be accompanied by a guide. There is no access to the lamp room balcony (the maintenance gallery around the lantern) on open days.
Private guided tours of Bidston Lighthouse can be arranged at other times (but we advise against coming in winter, as the lighthouse is not heated). A minimum charge of £40 applies. Our “tea and tour” package is popular with history groups and ramblers. Please telephone (0151) 653 7816 (or use our contact form) to discuss your requirements.
Previous open days in 2023.
In 2023, Bidston Lighthouse opened to the public on the third Saturday of each month from May through August, with guided tours at 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30pm. We also opened on Sunday 13th August at the same times.
International Lighthouse Heritage Weekend (ILHW) and International Lighthouse Lightship Weekend (ILLW) both fell on 19th – 20th August this year. During the weekend, the Wirral Amateur Radio Society operated from Bidston Lighthouse to mark ILLW, an international amateur radio event.
