We’ve had reports of woodpeckers seen pecking at the metal roof of the lighthouse. This explains the curious sound that we’ve noticed recently, mostly during the early hours of the day, as the dawn chorus gets under way.
Have you seen the woodpeckers?

Apparently it’s a macho thing. Male woodpeckers, wishing to impress the fairer sex, peck as loudly as they can. It seems that the lighthouse roof and the metal door from the lamproom to the balcony are uncommonly suited to this purpose.
